Where to guv?

I'm getting rained on, hard, trying to cross the Strand on a busy February morning. A taxi beeps loudly as my foot steps off the curb. It's one of those days where everyone looks like they've got out of the wrong side of the bed. 7 million londoners wishing they were somewhere else.

"The first day of any tour is just pissing about"
Andy my genial , pin-strip suited travel consultant isn't pissing about. We're working out the best way to get into Panama City, and he's just a whirl of airport codes and routing info. New airlines I didn't know existed until five minutes ago are now imprinted on my mind. Not sure this could all be done on Expedia...

Well the route is pretty much nailed down now. What started out as a visit to some far flung friends now reads like this;

London - Miami - Panama - Costa Rica - Nicaragua - Honduras - El Salvador - Guatamala - Belize - LA - Hawaii - Australia - Bali - Lombok - Hong Kong - London

I leave on the 19th of March. We are go for launch.

Welcome to No More Jam

Hi,

After almost five years of working as a UK travel news journalist, it's time to dust off the backpack and go see more of the world. I've reported on far too many traffic jams, delayed trains and cancelled flights.

If you've heard, read or seen my work it's probably brought a downer to your day. You're going to be late for work, miss the start of the game or not make that movie. Being a harbinger of doom is not always fun. When you find yourself only waiting for the next travel catastrophe, it's time for a change.

Most blogs are egotistical, narcissistic and self-absorbed, and so I feel i'll fit right in. This blog will hopefully capture the highlights from the next six months of travelling through thirteen countries and four continents.

This isn't a diary. Unless you're Samuel Pepys, Alan Bennett or even Alan Clarke, day to day life isn't that interesting. If you ever kept a journal, how often do you go back and read them? Probably a lot less than the latest copy of Heat. This space will contain brief snapshots of the trip. Conversations, sights and sounds experienced along the way. Probably a photo or two aswell.

So here's to life back on the road, and no more jam(s).
